13-Year-Old Charged in Car Theft After Police Chase in Montgomery County

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A police pursuit in Montgomery County led to the arrest of five individuals and the recovery of three firearms — including a ghost gun and a stolen weapon.

The incident began around 4:20 p.m. Thursday, when officers spotted a stolen silver Hyundai Elantra near Old Columbia Pike and Tech Road. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled. The pursuit ended quickly when the car jumped a median on Fairland Road and stopped near Copland Court. All five occupants then fled on foot.

Officers chased the suspects and arrested them in surrounding neighborhoods.

The group included two adults and three juveniles, the youngest being just 13 years old. The adults were identified as 18-year-old Nyveek Ross of Silver Spring and 19-year-old Kamonte Frazier of Columbia.

During the search, police recovered a bag in a wooded area linked to one of the 16-year-olds, containing a loaded firearm. Another 16-year-old had two more loaded guns — one reported stolen and another with its serial number removed, classifying it as a ghost gun.

The 13-year-old, accused of stealing the vehicle, was referred to juvenile services and released into the custody of guardians.

Ross and Frazier were charged with obstruction, disorderly conduct, and vehicle theft-related crimes. Ross was released on a $500 unsecured bond, while Frazier’s bond was set at $5,000.

The two 16-year-olds are being charged as adults and face numerous serious charges, including firearm use during a felony.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
