BURTONSVILLE, Md. — Authorities are investigating after a woman was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking in the parking lot of a Giant grocery store in Burtonsville on Thursday.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue crews responded to the scene at approximately 11:30 a.m., where they found the woman pinned beneath a car and unable to free herself.
Emergency responders extricated the victim and transported her to a nearby hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries later that afternoon.
The incident occurred at the Burtonsville Town Square shopping center on Old Columbia Pike.
Preliminary findings indicate that an adult female was hit by a vehicle and later died at the hospital, according to Montgomery County Police.
The driver remained at the scene following the crash. Authorities have not disclosed details about what led to the incident and are working to notify the victim’s family.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” MCPD stated. “Additional information, including the victim’s identity, will be released after next-of-kin notifications are completed.”
