Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Large Fight at Silver Oak Academy

Basketball Team Brawl Moves from Gym to Parking Lot in Keymar

Keymar, Md. — A basketball game at Silver Oak Academy turned violent on January 31, 2025, when a fight between the home team and a visiting squad escalated from the gymnasium to the parking lot, resulting in multiple injuries.

Deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police, and EMS responded to reports of a large altercation shortly before noon. Upon arrival, they found that a visiting player had allegedly attempted to stab a Silver Oak Academy student with a pen.

As the teams were separated, the visiting players and staff boarded their school vans to leave, but authorities stopped them. During the investigation, the suspect who allegedly brandished the pen tried to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. The 15-year-old also assaulted a Carroll County deputy during the pursuit. He was taken to Carroll Hospital for evaluation and later charged through a juvenile referral.

Emergency responders treated several students and a staff member for minor injuries, with two students transported to Carroll Hospital for further care before being released.

The incident remains under investigation.
