A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the November shooting and robbery that seriously injured former NFL player and celebrity chef Tobias Dorzon.
Devin Spivey was taken into custody on Friday at a residence in Laurel, Maryland. He now faces multiple charges stemming from the violent incident involving Dorzon and a woman, both of whom were shot and robbed. Dorzon, who owns two popular restaurants in Hyattsville—Huncho House and 1123 by Chef Tobias—was one of the victims.
The incident occurred on the night of November 5, 2024, around 10 p.m. in the 2500 block of Kirkwood Place, as Dorzon and the woman returned home from dinner. According to Hyattsville Police Chief Jarod Towers, four assailants exited a vehicle driven by a fifth person and opened fire, discharging dozens of rounds at the pair.
After the gunfire, the suspects reportedly stole several high-value items from Dorzon, including an $80,000 Audemars Piguet watch, a $15,000 diamond necklace, an iPhone, an Apple Watch, and a Louis Vuitton bag containing $2,000 in cash.
Both victims survived but were hospitalized with serious injuries. Chief Towers described the attack as a “tragic, heinous, violent offense.”
Spivey has been charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, armed robbery, and stalking. Investigators say phone data placed Spivey near the restaurant where Dorzon dined before the attack, at the crime scene, and at the site where the getaway vehicle was later found abandoned.
In a statement posted on Instagram, Dorzon reflected on the ordeal: “There’s no training for getting shot. No script for learning how to live with it. I’m still figuring out how to feel. Still learning how to breathe in this new version of my life,” he wrote. “But I’m still here. Still standing. Still cooking. Still chasing greatness. And I’m not stopping.”
Chief Towers emphasized the importance of the arrest, stating, “This is a vital step toward justice for the victims and ensuring the safety of our community. Our officers, along with partner agencies, worked diligently to identify and apprehend the suspect. We hope this brings some measure of relief to those affected.”
At this time, no other arrests related to the case have been announced.
