WASHINGTON — A woman lost her life Monday after being struck by a vehicle while she was standing on a sidewalk.
Police responded to the scene at the intersection of Muncaster Mill Road and Applewood Lane shortly after noon, following reports of a pedestrian-involved crash.
According to investigators, a Buick Envision veered into oncoming traffic and then left the roadway, striking the woman on the sidewalk. The reason the driver crossed into opposing lanes is still unknown.
The driver remained at the scene following the crash. The woman, described only as an adult, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released pending notification of her family.
Authorities have not yet determined whether speed or alcohol played a role in the incident. The Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating.
