Gaithersburg, MD – The Montgomery County Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is investigating a deadly pedestrian accident that happened in the early hours of Wednesday, June 18, 2025, near the intersection of Frederick Road and Indianola Drive in Derwood.
The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Godofredo Gonzales Zelaya. Authorities have not yet located his family and are seeking the public’s help in finding any relatives.
Around 12:54 a.m., officers from the 1st District and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue crews responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck.
According to initial findings, a 2018 Honda Accord heading northbound on Frederick Road hit Zelaya for reasons still under investigation. The driver fled the scene but was later found by officers and taken into custody for driving under the influence.
Zelaya was pronounced dead at the scene.
