MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A 47-year-old Mechanicsville man, Michael Robert Guy, has been charged with first- and second-degree arson after allegedly setting fire to both his own home and his parents’ vehicle.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office reports that firefighters from the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a blaze just after 1 a.m. Monday at a residence on Morganza Turner Road. When crews arrived, flames were already spreading from the attached garage to the rest of the house. The fire ultimately destroyed the home completely.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal was called in to investigate and later determined the fire had been intentionally started. Guy was identified as the suspect and was taken into custody.
During questioning, Guy reportedly confessed to setting his parents’ 2003 Cadillac on fire Saturday morning near Ted Drive and Ted Circle in Avenue. That incident had also been under investigation by fire officials.
Guy is currently being held without bond at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. Authorities have not released a motive for either arson incident.
