A police officer sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized following an altercation but is expected to recover.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting two Montgomery County police officers late Monday night.

Montgomery County police responded to a “person in distress” call around 11:45 p.m. in the 7900 block of Otter Cove Court. Upon arrival, officers encountered 28-year-old Michael MacCrae Shannon, who reportedly became aggressive and attacked them.

Despite the incident, officers managed to restrain Shannon without additional assistance. One officer was seriously injured during the altercation and was transported to a local hospital, where they are expected to recover.
