Two Dead in Oxon Hill House Fire, Officials Report

Two Killed in Oxon Hill House Fire, Cause Under Investigation

A late-night house fire in Oxon Hill, Maryland, claimed the lives of two people on Sunday, according to the Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department.

Firefighters responded around 6:45 p.m. to a two-story home in the 5500 block of Galloway Drive, where they found the house engulfed in flames, with fire spreading from the basement to the roof.

A man and a woman did not survive the fire, while two other adults managed to escape unharmed after being alerted by a smoke alarm.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

Following the incident, fire officials returned to the neighborhood on Monday to educate residents about fire safety, speaking with 58 people and installing 20 free smoke alarms.

Officials urge residents to develop an emergency escape plan and contact the Prince George’s County Fire Department/EMS at 301-583-2200 for a free smoke alarm installation if needed.
